Ain Shams University (ASU), the third oldest university in Egypt after Cairo University and Alexandria University was established in 1950. The university includes 15 faculties and 2 high institutes. It includes more than 220,000 undergraduate students, 5,000 staff members, and more than 100 centers and special units.
Ain Shams University seeks excellence in the field of higher education and research on the local, regional and international levels while creating an atmosphere of independence, freedom, democracy, and equality that would help serve the community and attain sustainable development. The university’s mission includes integrating a culture of total quality and continuous improvement in the educational process and research, enriching the theoretical and applied knowledge in accordance with ethical standards, social and cultural life of society, also spreading the culture and ethics of scientific research and strengthening cooperation between the University and other universities, scientific research centers locally, regionally and globally.
The university also works on the field of development of educational programs in light of the standards of local, regional and global levels to provide students with the latest sources of knowledge and modern technology to develop their ability in innovation, leadership, and self-learning, teamwork and competition, strengthening the continuing education and distance education and activating the role of the centers and units of a special nature to provide research and advisory services to the community.
Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering (FoE, ASU) has 13 academic departments, more than 780 staff members, and about 14,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students distributed over its 4 main engineering sectors: Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, in addition to its 9 engineering programs under the Credit Hours Engineering Programs (CHEP). FoE, ASU offers a number of degrees including B.Sc., Diplomas, M.Sc., M.Eng, and Ph.D. over its four main engineering sectors. It is a research-active higher education institution that runs numerous research projects, in a multitude of fields, and many related subjects that are integrated and unified recently under a wider sustainability umbrella, to serve the growing national needs for research and community awareness. In addition, the FoE has a growing awareness of pedagogical developments and needs, as well as innovative teaching methodologies. This has put the faculty on top of the list and has recently been approved to deliver innovative multi/interdisciplinary programmes and accredited courses to disseminate its expertise to relevant academic audiences, local authorities, and companies. Moreover, FoE was accredited in June 2014 by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE), as the first Faculty of Engineering across Egypt to achieve such accreditation.
