The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) is based at the Independent University, Bangladesh. Founded in 1993, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest private universities in Bangladesh. Academic excellence is longstanding here, teaching a passion and lifelong learning habits. IUB currently has more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. ICCCAD aims to be a global Centre of Excellence on Climate Change and Development. Its research is based in Bangladesh, where climate change has had a significant impact. ICCCAD wants to build and lead a network of Southern-based partner institutions and in turn, increase intellectual and technological capacities in the South. It is anticipated that the graduates of the Master’s program in Climate Change and Development, which the center runs with the IUB’s School of Environmental Science and Management, will play an influential role in shaping and contributing to critical capacity-building efforts in climate change and development. These graduates will be able to offer a unique international perspective and insight having emerged from a program based in a country likely to experience many of the potential effects of climate change, including increased floods, droughts, hurricanes, and coastal flooding and salinity intrusion due to increased sea levels.
